Textbox Dictation
Last updated: 13 October 2026
Textbox Dictation does not collect, store on a server, or share any of your data.
- Your voice stays on your Mac. Audio from the microphone is transcribed on your Mac by Whisper. It is never recorded to disk or sent anywhere, and the app only listens while you are dictating.
- Your clipboard and dictation history stays on your Mac. What you copy (text, images, files) and past dictations are saved in the app's own container so you can reuse them from the menu bar. Copies that password managers mark as concealed are never saved. Turn the clipboard history off in Settings, delete single items, or remove everything with Clear History.
- No accounts, analytics, ads or tracking.
- Network use. The only internet connection the app makes is to download the Whisper speech model from Hugging Face the first time you use it (or when you pick a different model in Settings). No personal data is sent with that request.
- Local connection for other apps. The app accepts connections from other apps on the same Mac (such as T3 Code) on
127.0.0.1so they can offer a dictation button. It doesn't accept connections from other computers. - Accessibility permission is used only to type or paste your dictated text into the text field you are using.
